I know we love our mothers as a general rule. I know you all think your mama is the best, but I'd like to take a moment to brag on mine.
This is Dorothy. Technically, she's not my mother, but my mother-in-law, which makes what I have to say all the more unique. She's a pretty special lady. When I was nineteen, I met her son, Jeremy and if I'm honest, I'd have to say that I was not a 'nice girl'. If I'd been Dorothy, I'd have been pulling him the other direction after getting a load of me.
But that is NOT what Dorothy did. Dorothy loved on me like I'd never been loved on before. She became my mother, the one that my own mother was not able to be. She loved and nurtured and taught me how to be a woman of God, a wife and a friend. She taught me to listen and to think carefully, to cook a turkey, to sew and cross-stitch, to try new things. She was my mama.
I am so lucky to have her! Monday, I had the opportunity to take her out for the first portrait shoot we've ever done together. (she's never been too fond of having her picture made.) She came over and I did her hair and makeup and then we spent an hour and a half shooting some of the most beautiful pictures of her.
I wanted to share them with you, well, at least some of them so you can see just how gorgeous this lady is. I am hoping I have half her beauty at her age. She makes a great model.
I hope you enjoy them. I have to admit that I had the best time taking them. Something about portraiture really allows me to see the beauty in my subject and I end up just grinning with the joy it fills me up with.
