Can I be sad a moment?

I've been spending a bit of time visiting the blogs of other creative people recently and I am astounded at how many random, everyday photos people have of their families just being together.

My family just isn't quite like that.  We seem to have very few moments where people are interacting playfully.  Or at least I can't capture them on film.  Maybe that's all it is.  They are almost always at night, almost always inside in bad light.  We DO have them, but in this part of the world, you just don't spend that much time outside I guess.

That and my kids aren't happy very often.  It makes me sad that they are happy so infrequently.  Wish I knew what to do about that.

If I had it to do over again, I'd live somewhere that was more outdoor friendly and I'd make it a point to find things to do together to have fun.  LOL, maybe I'd read someone else's blog to get an idea of what that might be.

Ok, done complaining.

  1. Just so you know, I have seen your kids happy. Several times. I've even seen them happy in a family setting -- granted both our families were there at the time, so they had friends around, too, but you don't have to capture them on film to know they're there! Maybe you've been too busy enjoying those moments to run and grab the camera?

I understand that you'd like to have more "light and happy" times as a family. I'm still praying, and I know you are, too!!! Love ya, sis!!!

  2. *hugs* We're not always happy, Ursula. but when we're happy.. we're really really happy. I believe you have those moments too.

    What's that saying?

I'd rather have thirty minutes of wonderful than a lifetime of nothing special ~ unknown :)

You're a good mother, with a big kind, loving heart. and I adore you for that. :) *hugs*

  3. Thanks girls. I think this might have been a pms day too. But if you lived with me, you'd see some pretty mopey kids. It's not a surprise, given their backgrounds. I do wish I'd had them from the beginning when they were able to play freely.

I am thinking now in terms of capturing the happy moments. Noticing is important right?
